ANSWER: It is really easy to operate once you get it all figured out. Trust me when I say you DO need to follow the directions to get it the first time. I love it because it's for a wide stairway which regular gates are too small for. Once I got it all sized up to the space, it works like a charm. by Loretta E 1/25/2012
