Well, simply put, it means that the measurement of your dog’s neck is the size of the collar it needs. No guesswork needed to buy a collar that fits your dog correctly and comfortably.
You don't buy pants for yourself that are a certain measurement and add or subtract several inches to get your true pants measurement, right? Why should you do that for your dog? We like to keep it simple and logical here at Dog IDs, Measure your dog's neck and order that size collar. That's the way it should be!
Simply measure your dog’s neck at the base for the proper collar size. There should always be enough room between the pet’s neck and the collar to slip one finger between them comfortably.
Measure your dog's neck with a sewing tape while keeping two fingers between his skin and the tape.
or
Wrap a string around your dogs neck with two fingers between his skin and the string. Mark the string and then measure the length of it.
or
Remove your dog's current collar and stretch it out flat. Then measure from the center of the buckle to the current sizing hole being used.
