The engraving is still crisp and clear. My dogs are the rough and tumble type and dig holes and tunnels in the yard so the tags take a beating. The stainless steel rubs off a little bit on white fur so I'm going to order brass. by Roger M 6/9/2011 ANSWER: We bought our one-year lab/weim mix this tag 6 months ago to replace her old one that we had gotten from one of those etching machines in a pet store because it was so pitted and scratched it was unreadable. Her new tag doesn't show any wear yet. She is extremely tough on her tags - she is a very energetic dog - so I am guessing they should stand up to anything.
