ANSWER: The optional metal buckle is a beefier metal buckle that would replace the light weight plastic one. I have had the plastic one for over a year and am happy with it. I bet there are photos on the dealer website somewhere.

ANSWER: The collar comes with a plastic or metal buckle- I always go with the plastic, the metal doesn't wear as well my dog loves to go into the water and the plastic will release or break should it get caught. I know of a dog owner who's dog almost choked with a metal buckle while playing with other dogs and the doggie daycare will now only allow collars with a plastic buckle. by Anita R 4/9/2012

ANSWER: I do not think the Maya collar is good for a dog who likes to swim. It's a great collar, but has a canvas type material over the nylon backing that will not look as nice after repeatedly getting wet. My other dog has just the plain, nylon embroidered collar and that one would be good for a swimming dog! It's not as cute at the Maya collar, but definitely serves it's purpose well. ANSWER: I have a narrow one for my dog. He does go in rivers and hikes in snow it. That being said the fabric is sewn onto the nylon webbing. It seems to be cotton or linen. Perhaps the description online tells you. We live in a dry climate, so it dries fairly fast. I would take it off if he was going to get a bath. All nylon webbing would probably be better if you live in a humid climate. It is a very fun collar though! by Christina C 11/15/2011
