dogIDs Store asked: Why did you choose this?
Alfred S asked:
I read on this site that the Bison collars with name tags are a bit heavy and bulky for small dogs. I have a 7lb. cockapoo and was wondering if the Italian leather with the nameplate would be okay for him?--(my wife wants red and I want leather so it narrows the choices). Thanks for any help

Bonita:
hi Alfred, I think there was a mistake in my earlier post. The collar is great for the silky terrier that is wearing it. It is actually my sister's dog. She absolutely loves it and she gets great compliments on it. Everyone says it looks really fantastic on him. Monty, is about 11 pounds so he is bigger than your dog but I still think it would work well for your dog. I don't think that the collar is too heavy or the nameplate is too big at all. The problem with Monty is he is a chewer, so whenever the end of the collar is close enough for him to reach he chews on it. But that was true with other collars as well, with a hanging tag on it. If he could reach it he would chew on it. That is why my sister really liked the nameplate on this collar because he could not get to it to destroy it. So overall I do think that this collar would be great for your dog, just hopefully your dog won't be chewing as much. I hope this helps.

Hello Bonita,
Thanks for taking the time to your response. I have a couple of follow up questions?
How big is your silky terrier? My dog is only 7 lbs. and wanted to see if your dog was about the same size.
Do you feel the leather collar you have with the nameplate is too big or heavy for your dog?
Would you order this one again, or stick with your nylon?
Thanks again for your help
Aug 28, 2012
Bonita C:
Hi, no leather collar is great, however it is a bit heavier than the nylon collar I purchased from here previously. It only presents a problem when the silky terrier that is wearing it is able to reach the end of it and chew on it. He has not broken through the collar yet. I hope this helps.

I purchased the Italian Leather Collar in Pomegranate for my dog,. She weighs 36 lbs. The collar is beautiful, soft and I was very pleased.

Alfred S:
Thanks Tracy,
My dog is half that size at 7lb. and I did not mention he is finished growing. Still think it would be okay?
Aug 27, 2012
Tracy H:
If you can get the collar small enough, it would be fine. Our pup is 14 pounds and we love the collar.

Toshya N:
I ordered two of the Italian dog collars for my smaller dogs (around 35lbs) one pink, one blue. The pink is for my female dog who I consider dainty, the collars are perfect for both my dogs and are not heavy AT ALL. I think if ordered in the correct size the red Italian leather dog collar would be great for your dog. They are good quality and nice looking at the same time. The name plate positioning is perfect and you can't go wrong with a lifetime guarantee on the engraving. Google online for coupon codes too.

A shopper asked:
How well do these collars hold up? I have purchased colored leather collars before and within a year or two the collars start to look old and very worn.
Aug 28, 2012
Toshya N:
I have only owned mine for a couple of months so I can't answer that question yet. What I do know is that I have purchased 4 collars from Dogids and am extremely impressed with the quality. I don't believe you could purchase a better collar elsewhere. They are beautiful as well and the customer service was exceptional as well. Good luck

Thanks for the kind words Toshya! We're very happy that you are impressed with our products and customer service!

So far it still looks new. However, we have only had it a short time since it was purchased for a puppy. We wanted to wait to get it until she was close to full grown. Looks beautiful and very durable. Have had many comments on it, all positive.

Robb B:
We only got these a few months ago. They are soft, well made and very attractive. My expectation would be that if they lasted two years, I'd be happy. We use them every day.

Lali G:
My dog has only had the collar for a month but the leather is beautiful. I am not going to let her wear it in the pool because it is so nice.

I only recently purchased this collar so I cannot really answer this question.

A shopper asked:
I measured my dogs neck and it came to 12 inches, which collar size should I purchase, 9-12 or 11-14?
Jun 18, 2013
Chuck BStaff:
If your dog is mature and the neck size does not change with the seasons, the 5/8 x 9-12 inch collar would fit on the last hole. If you go up to the next size, the width is now 3/4 inches x 11-14 and would fit on the 2nd hole in the strap. So either collar would work. I would measure the current collar width, and if you prefer the narrower collar go with the 9-12 and if you want a bit wider collar with a bit more room to go up, then go with the 11-14. Chuck B. Tracy H:
Definitely 11-14 to have room for adjustments. You don't want to go with the very beginning or ending number. This collar has multiple holes for adjustments; works well!

Toshya N:
I was faced with the same situation. I went with the smaller size and ended up exchanging it for the bigger one. Go with the 11 to 14 size.
Jun 18, 2013
Margaret H:
I bought the 9"-12", and it fits fine (closes on 2d hole).

A shopper asked:
I like the leather collars i have a pom-sheltie. Do you have the leather collar for this kind of dog. I need to measure the size also?
Jan 14, 2013
Toshya N:
As long as they have the correct size for your dog, these Italian leather collars will work for any dog and look great! Whatever size you measure for your dog get that exact size do not allow extra. It will fit perfect. I own two of these collars for my dogs. The pinkish color for my girl and the light blue for my boy. Both are small dogs....they look great and are high quality.
Jan 14, 2013
Chuck BStaff:
We would have you measure the dog's neck size. Use a string or sewing tape and measure the dogs neck with 2 fingers under the tape for comfort. This line of collars can fit from a 6-8 inch neck on the smallest up to 22-26 on the largest, so we do have a wide range of sizes to fit most breeds. Chuck B. Staff.

Our pup (full grown beagle/jack russell terrier now) is 15 pounds and the Italian Leather Collar is great for her. We measured her neck and rounded up to the correct size. There are quite a few holes for adjustments; it fits great!

I have the leather collar for a Jack Russell. It is a really pretty collar made from soft leather. Great quality.

A shopper asked:
which font looks best?
May 29, 2012
Chuck BStaff:
If you scroll down on the item page you can see the font options. The most common is probably Arial, but others may prefer a scripted font. You can also view the fonts under the Help Menu. Chuck B. Staff
May 29, 2012
Clint HStaff:
That is personal preference but Arial is very clear to read and our most popular font. Arial Rounded is also very clear and a little bolder than regular Arial

Tracy H:
Kristen; it is clear, good size, and looks very nice. We love our pup's new collar.

Garamond is classic and always looks elegant.

Tabatha asked:
Can I just confirm that if I get this collar in one of the two largest sizes, it is wider than 1"?
Also, is it at all possible to have this collar in a smaller size but still wider than 1"?
Thank you.

Cindy M:
Yea it is plenty wide, we have a big dog and it looks good. It is nice.

Yvette W:
I ordered the 18 inch and the width is 1 inch.

Tabatha asked:
Hi,
Love this collar. Would it be strong enough for a big, powerful dog?
Feb 12, 2013
Tracy H:
Definitely; I was torn between two of the collars, and thought maybe I would order both, but after we got the Italian Leather collar, I really can't justify the extra expense because it is very strong and durable. Guess if I had extra money I would just have a little wardrobe of collars for our dog, but at this point that will have to wait.

Fred R:
Yes It is strong enough for a big dog. I purchased it for my 80 LB boxer. It is wearing well m

Barbara N asked:
Hi, I ordered two dog collars that are really too big. Are these items that can be exchanged or because they are personalized they can not. Please let me know. I measuered their necks and they were 14 inches so I ordered the 16 - 18 inch but it really has a lot of extra material that hangs loose. If these can not be returned can the leather be cut? Thanks
Jun 14, 2012
Yvette W:
I also ordered a larger size and returned it for the next size down. The exchange was so easy and I received the new collars pretty quickly. dogId staff is very helpful!
Mar 9, 2013
Chuck BStaff:
Yes, rivet on tag collars can be exchanged for a different size. Contact customer service for details at 800-720-8247. Chuck B. Staff

Teresa B asked:
what size for an female english mastiff ?
May 29, 2012
Chuck BStaff:
To determine the correct size leather, DuraSoft or DuraFlect collar for your dog, use one of the
following procedures:
Measure your dog's neck with a sewing tape while keeping two fingers between his skin and the
tape.
OR...
Wrap a string around your dogs neck with two fingers between his skin and the string. Then
measure the length of the string.
OR...
Remove your dog's current collar and stretch it out flat. Then measure from the center of the
buckle to the current sizing hole being used.
This measurement is your dog's neck size and the collar length to order.
Example: If you measured your dog's neck to be 16" and you want a 1" wide collar, you would
order a 1"x16" collar. If your neck size goes beyond a 26 inch neck size, this collar style would not be large enough. Chuck B. Staff

Barbara B asked:
My dog's neck measures 9 inches - -what size is best?
May 29, 2012
Chuck BStaff:
You have two options 7-10 inch with a 1/2 inch width or a 8-11 inch collar in 5/8 inch wide collar.
So you can determine if you like the narrower 1/2 inch or a bit wider 5/8 inch collar style. Chuck B. Staff.
