dogIDs Store asked: Why did you choose this?
A shopper asked:
How exactly do you get it over the buckle? I have 4 different collars and it does not FIT!

SUSAN S:
I had originally purchased these for my son's dogs, who had belt-buckle style leather collars. I didn't even think about it, when I ordered one for my new dog and ran into plastic buckle problem. I loved the rose-colored leather collar I had just bought for my new little girl, but I still wanted a tag that couldn't be tugged when they play. So I solved the problem by looping a thin, clear, plastic-coated, twist-tie-type wire through the holes and around the back of the collar. It's not how I expected to use the tag, but it worked.

You must have a collar that looks like a belt. It cannot be placed over these new collars that have the snap on and pinch off plastic buckles! The old fashioned standard belt style collars seem to be rare and you may even have to buy one from overseas or go to a shoe repair store and take your old leather belt. Have them shorten it and finish the edges if you want a nice finished look and place your new steel slide on name plate on the collar or at least take it with you so they can see how you want it.

The collar I have is TopPaw brand, I think it is polyester or something like that (it looks like a small belt)... found it at PetSmart or Petco, but it is standard... I just slid the tag over the non buckle side... If your collar is leather, it should still fit over the non-buckle end, but you may have to bend the tag a little so that it fits better on your dog. Good luck!

I had to buy a collar with the "old fashioned" kind of buckle. Didn't like it, so I recently purchased one of the embroidered collars from DogID. They really should specify that the collar is not for the newer kind of snap buckle collars.

I don't think that these name plates work on the collars with the black plastic snap closures. I think that they will only work on the belt buckle closure type collars. Then, you can slide the name plate on the collar.

It is for collars that u make yourself or for collars without side release buckles

Slip it through the non-buckle side.

You don't slide the slide on dog collar name plate over the buckle, you slide it over the buckleless end of the collar until the name plate is in the position you want it. My dog's collar is an extra-thick, extra-strong, wider woven collar. I was worried the slide on name plate wouldn't fit but I had no problems, it slid on easily, stays in place, and the edges of the slide on plate don't cut into the woven collar or cause the fibers to fray. I frequently receive positive feedback about my dog's "fancy" nameplate!

A shopper asked:
Does this stay on the collar? Willit go on one thatis a strap collar

B E:
These are the only kind of dog ID's that I use. They do stay put on the collar but you must have the kind of collar that you can thread through the ID tag and make sure you pay attention to what size the width of the collar is so that you order the correct size ID tag. Unless you lose the collar you will never lose the tag with kind of ID tag. Love them! I have both sizes--one for a smaller dog and the larger one for our bigger dog.

A L:
Yes, it stays on the collar. You thread the collar through the two holes and there's no chance of it falling off. I'm not sure what a strap collar is, but if you have a standard collar with a buckle on it, it should be fine. The adjustable collars with plastic clasps at both ends don't fit through the holes.

I have been nothing but please with the collars. They stay in place on a regular collar that goes around the neck, made of twisted nylon (I think) - not leather. I'm not sure what a strap collar is but I would imagine that if you order the right size it will stay on.

Have had this name plate for almost 2 years, so yes it will stay on.
Don't know about a strap collar.

Sheila G asked:
Do you sell a collar that these slide on tags will fit onto?
Dec 7, 2011
R Y:
I bought them to use of the black rubber dog collars that this site sells. Excellent products for my very active, often outdoors in all weather, 5 yro black lab and 2 yro dalmation/terrier mix! I bought the larger tag with the 1" wide collar.

I really hate to give up the convenience of the snap together plastic buckle collars, but I guess that's the only way to use the slide on tags.

A shopper asked:
I want a Slide-On Dog Name Plate but the collar is 1/2 " H. Would 1" 3/4 be to big for the collar?
Jun 17, 2012
Chuck BStaff:
I would order the 3/4 inch tag and in the comment box state "Mini Plate" and we will send a small plate we use for the mimi collars. If you have additional questions, contact customer service at 800-720-8247. Chuck B. Staff

A shopper asked:
Will the stainless steel slide on tag cause any discoloration on white fur?
Jun 20, 2012
Becky B:
I don't remember having a problem with that, the dog did have some white on the collar, but it was a working cowdog and we really didn't pay much attention to the white.

Ralph B:
Our Weimaraner has short tan/gray fur, and hasn't discolored at all. Dont know about white, but doubt that stainless would cause discoloration.

it has not caused any discoloration on my white German Shorthair Pointer.
