Why Slide On Dog Tags

If your dog is always wearing his or her collar, hang tags can get a little annoying. With these Slide-On dog tags, these ID Collar Name Plates help you so you don't have to worry about the constant jingling.

These slide on dog tags are versatile plates, they are perfect for turning an old and outdated collar into a new and fresh looking on!

Along with refreshing an older collar, you can also house a ton of important information on these name plates. With the option for 4 lines of text with 15 characters apiece, you can fit everything from names to phone numbers and other emergency information.

Installation

This slide-on dog tag easily slides onto the strap of your dog's collar, as long as the collar has a traditional prong style buckle (like a human belt). The opening on the slide on tag is 1/8" wide, which can usually fit over a leather, nylon, or waterproof strap. This tag cannot be used with collars that have breakaway or quick release buckles, as the buckles are on both ends and are too wide for the tag to slide over.

Product Highlights:

  • 2 Durable Material Types
  • 3 Different Sizes for a Snug Fit on Almost Any Collar
  • Up to 4 Lines with 15 Characters per Line - 60 Characters Total
  • Choose One of 13 Fun Fonts

Great for when Duffy goes swimming.
Krista C on Jul 22, 2016
My dogs are less than 2 years old and this is the third tag I have bought for Murphy (German Shorthaired male) and the second for Sam ( German Shepherd male). They are active dogs and the tags wear at the hole and break free. Thought maybe this type would last. We will see.

The two dogs pull the others hanging tags off when playing
mark m on Jul 19, 2016
Needed a tag that wasn't so noisy!
Georgianne S on Jul 19, 2016
I can tranfer the tag to a different collar. I do not like the jingle of a hanging tag.
Sandra L on Jul 18, 2016
Much less annoying for the dog,
Rick S on Jul 18, 2016
I chose this tag because my little dog does not like collars at all and certainly doesn't want something hanging and swinging when he walks. This seemed like the perfect alternative.
Beth B on Jul 17, 2016
Looks cute. Bunnie doesn't like dog tags so this is a very nice compromise.
Kelly K on Jul 16, 2016
No raddle because of tags hanging from the collar and less chance of dogs getting their dew-claws caught in the ring when scratching.
John M on Jul 16, 2016
This is a really neat item. It is more secure than the normal ones that are put on rings.
Monica A on Jul 13, 2016
Other tags were either lost easily or removed easily. Others made too much noise and this kind we had before and worked great!
Ann J on Jul 12, 2016
Since we live in an area with lots of oak shrubs, regular tags get easily caught and lost very quickly. I needed to try something different and I am hoping this will do the trick.
Amanda L on Jul 10, 2016
Our dog is constantly losing his tags. Hopefully this will work.
Lynn S on Jul 9, 2016
I liked the non hanging idea

I chose this slide on tag for my cat just in case she wanders away from home so that she can be returned safely. I hope the design will be comfortable for her to wear.

My dogs always lose their hanging tags when romping through the woods, these slide-on ones seem the answer to this problem
Gudrun B on Jul 1, 2016
My dog continues to lose his tags regardless of what type of fastener I use, so I thought I'd try this.
Judith R on Jun 30, 2016
I chose this tag because they stay securely on their collar... They can't chew it or get it hung on anything. It is one way to make sure your pet gets home if they get lost!(along with microchips!)
julie b on Jun 29, 2016
These won't come off the collars like the hanging tags will. they don't make noise. They are very, very durable.
James K on Jun 28, 2016
Don't have to worry about it falling off or getting caught on anything!
Steven W on Jun 28, 2016
I cut my dog's collar with a scissors, slid on the tag, and quickly hand sewed the collar back together. It worked perfectly on both my dogs' collars. Just make the cut where you want the tag to sit so you can slide it to cover the sewed area. I've gotten so many compliments on these tags!
Kris H on Jun 27, 2016
We want to keep our babies safe in the event they get out. These seem like they are easy to view while on the dog's collar and won't be clinking too much so it's a great idea! I hope they are as nice as they look :)
Bonnie A on Jun 26, 2016
My dog is small and I didn't want the weight of the other tags.
Dodie S on Jun 24, 2016
Love these tags! Eases my mind to keep them safe!!
Kathleen H on Jun 22, 2016
Whenever I've used the more traditional tags, the O-ring always broke and we've ended up losing every tag.
Susan L on Jun 22, 2016
My dog chews on everything, INCLUDING his tags. I am hoping he won't be able to reach this!
Rebecca B on Jun 18, 2016
Seems like a different and convenient option to a standard hang tag.
Jenny S on Jun 18, 2016
Safety and style. Hanging tags can get caught easily in heater vents, etc. so slide on tags are safer and will stay on collar without pulling off.

CASEY C on Jun 13, 2016
Our dog is blind and she chews on tags that hang from her collar. These slide on tags will be the perfect solution to have her tags on her collar and she won't know they are there.

KariAnne C on Jun 5, 2016

marcia s on Jun 1, 2016
I like that you have choices for the tag style, font and materials used to make the tags
Danielle A on May 27, 2016
Slide-on tags don't jingle, get caught on things, or fall off. They are safer than hanging tags. The only way for them to get separated from the dog, is if the collar is removed.
Dawn T on May 25, 2016
Love this for my horse halter!

We have active Labs. The last time I bought this type of collar the engraving was so light that it wore off in 6 months. How deep can you engrave the stainless to make it last for years of abuse?
Pat C. on Feb 4, 2015
If we have a buckle release collar, will this type of ID tag work?
A shopper on Jan 14, 2015
BEST ANSWER: The slide on tags need one open end on the collar, so side release (snap buckles) do not work as the buckle parts are too thick to weave through the plate. Chuck B. Staff
So these dont work on leather collars?
A shopper on Aug 20, 2015
BEST ANSWER: I have one on a leather collar and it fits on there fine. It just has to be a buckle collar, where it has the holes to attach it and not a collar with like a plastic snap attachment. It also has to be a flat collar. It won't work on a rolled leather collar. And it won't work on slip chains or martingale collars.
Will this fit on a double layer leather collar?
Tara S on Jun 7, 2016
BEST ANSWER: The opening is 1/8" wide, so as long as the collar is not thicker than that, it should fit over it.
I'm buying a Nylon QR Code ScruffTag Dog Collar (3/4" x 9") for a small Pomm that just barely has a 9" collar now and want to provide a name & number directly for anyone without the ability to scan the qr. 1. I wanted to make sure the QR scrufftag collar will accept this additional tag and 2. verify what size slide-on tag to buy for a 3/4" wide scrufftag collar.?
Kevin C on Feb 28, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Based on your request, I would actually recommend that you go with this QR code collar - https://www.dogids.com/product/nylon-webbing-scruff-tag-collars-with-qr-code/ - It's made from the same nylon but the QR code plate is colored aluminum and we engrave the phone number and the name pf the dog on the plate as well.

That would be the best option because with a neck size that small, it's going to be really hard to fit both nameplates on the collar. The smallest size adjusts down to 9" and that would not leave much room for an extra plate.
Do these IDs work on the common snap together type collars?
Jan E on Jan 12, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Hi Jan,

They will not. They will only work on collars that have an open end, like a belt. We do sell nylon collars with snap buckles where the plate is sewn in before the buckle is attached, but the plate itself won't work.
Is the brass Slide-On ID collar tag polished or antqued?
Kristel V on Jul 22, 2015
BEST ANSWER: I would say it starts out polished. Over time, it will tarnish, but you can use brass cleaner to shine it up.
Regarding the Slide-On ID tag, is the tag slightly curved? I had a slide-on for my other dog and it was straight and pushed into my dog's neck.
Kristel V on Jul 22, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Yes our tags are curved. Chuck B. Staff

A shopper on Jul 22, 2015
BEST ANSWER: They come slightly curved.
Will this tag slide on a thick nylon belt style collar?
David on Jun 5, 2015
BEST ANSWER: If it has an open end like a belt and the width matches the width of tag you order, then yes.
what size for a 1" width collar? small, medium or large?
A shopper on May 16, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Large slide fit 1" inch width collars. Chuck B. Staff
I want to choose the font but I can't tell how the font style looks. How can I see the font I want?
A shopper on May 16, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Just above the size drop down box are 3 tabs, click on the Font Guide tab, to see the fonts, or just start typing in text and the preview will show the text in the font you selected. Chuck B. Staff
Is this the same tag used for the DIY paracord collars?
Britt N on Apr 14, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Yes. It's the same tag used for all ScruffTag Collars.
Is this the same tag as the scruff wear line? Contoured? Same size? I'm wanting the same nameplate from the scrufftag line without the collar...
A shopper on Apr 1, 2015
BEST ANSWER: The slide-on dog collar name plates are the same as we use in the scruff tag line. Chuck B. staff
What is the size difference in the small, medium and large?
Colleen on Feb 1, 2015
BEST ANSWER: The sizes match the width of collar they work with - small=5/8" med=3/4" large=1"
All three have the same size opening for the thickness of the collar - 1/8"
I have a 1 3/4" thick collar what do you recommend for size?
A shopper on Jan 25, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Our slide on tags only fit on the collars that are 5/8", 3/4" or 1" wide, so I'm afraid they won't work for that thick of a collar. You could look at the rivet on nameplate options instead http://www.dogids.com/category/rivet-on-dog-collar-name-plates/.

I show this dog tag to everyone!
Got it because it doesn't rattle or jingle. Love that part. But it is easier to read than the embroideried ones. Doesn't fall off or fade. Can use with cool collars. And reuse when old collar falls apart! I love it. Dog doesn't care. But I do!

These are great. Silent, can't fall off and easy to see. Only one of my 4 dogs can't use it. She is small and it runs the hair off her neck. For the rest, its perfect!

Looks great!
I am still very pleased with this tag. It looks great and I have no fear of him loosing it. The price is worth every penny! I was very grateful for the warning of not trying to put it on a clip collar, I hadn't even given that any consideration when I purchased it. I will definitely order again for my other animals.

Great product-Stands up to my dogs
No problem with the tags at all. My problem is finding the old style collar that these work best on. For my one dog I put it on a key ring and fastened that to the collar. Love the product as my dogs run a lot through bushes.

Response from dogIDs
I see from your order that you purchased the medium size tag in this style. For small dogs, such as your 10 lbs dogs, (using small collars - 5/8") we recommend the small size in this style of tag. It is 5/8" wide.
We are updating the product description to better describe which size should be use for each size dog. However, the size of the tags to correspond to the size of collar you intend to put them on.
