Why Slide-On Dog Tags

If your dog is always wearing his or her collar, hang tags can get a little annoying. With these Slide-On dog tags, you'll never again have to hear the jingling of a tag.

These slide on dog tags are versatile plates, they are perfect for turning an old and outdated collar into a new and fresh looking one!

Along with refreshing an older collar, you can also house a ton of important information on these nameplates. With the option for 4 lines of text of 15 characters apiece, you can fit everything from names to phone numbers and other emergency information.

Installation

This slide-on dog tag easily slides onto the strap of your dog's collar, as long as the collar has a traditional prong style buckle (like a human belt). The opening on the slide on tag is 1/8" wide, which can usually fit over a leather, nylon, or waterproof strap. This tag cannot be used with collars that have breakaway or quick release buckles, as the buckles are on both ends and are too wide for the tag to slide over.

However, if you like the idea of a nameplate like this on a clip collar, check our Nylon ScruffTag Collars, where we sew the plate into the collar before it's completed.

I have one already for one of my other dogs. The quality and appearance are awesome! And I like not having a dangling name tag. One of my dogs gets a hold of a dangling tag and chews it. This stops that habit! :) Thank you!

While my dogs are all microchipped, it is my hope that should they ever happen to get lost, I will be notified more quickly since this identification tag makes the dog's name and my phone number immediately available.
SUSAN W on Aug 15, 2018
Our dog keeps loosing his name tag that hangs off his collar. I tried a couple things to help them stay on to no avail. These slide over the collar and won't be able to get caught on something and pulled off. Great idea!
Katrina E on Aug 10, 2018
these ID Tags fit the collar and are quiet. I bought a second for a friends dog that I watch because I am tired of listening to a cow bell running around the house.
Sam M on Aug 9, 2018
My tiny guy is currently only 9 weeks old, I wanted something that would be able to be used with each collar he needs as he grows into the large breed he is, and also not worry about it falling off. Once he is grown I will be purchasing the personalized collar with the same style tag sewn on.

I like the tag that will slide onto a collar instead of hang. That way if the pup does wonder off or get lost it won't get caught on something or potentially fall off.

We chose these slide on dog ID tags because they slip on easily and aren't dangling from our dog's neck. Easy to remove and interchange collars.

If we have a buckle release collar, will this type of ID tag work?
A shopper on Jan 14, 2015
BEST ANSWER: The slide on tags need one open end on the collar, so side release (snap buckles) do not work as the buckle parts are too thick to weave through the plate. Chuck B. Staff
Regarding the Slide-On ID tag, is the tag slightly curved? I had a slide-on for my other dog and it was straight and pushed into my dog's neck.
Kristel V on Jul 22, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Yes our tags are curved. Chuck B. Staff
We have active Labs. The last time I bought this type of collar the engraving was so light that it wore off in 6 months. How deep can you engrave the stainless to make it last for years of abuse?
Pat C. on Feb 4, 2015
BEST ANSWER: We do guarantee the engraving for the life of the pet. You can send a picture of the plate to [email protected], or you can contact customer service at 800-720-8247.
Chuck B. Staff
What is the size difference in the small, medium and large?
Colleen on Feb 1, 2015
BEST ANSWER: The sizes match the width of collar they work with - small=5/8" med=3/4" large=1"
All three have the same size opening for the thickness of the collar - 1/8"
I have a 1 3/4" thick collar what do you recommend for size?
A shopper on Jan 25, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Our slide on tags only fit on the collars that are 5/8", 3/4" or 1" wide, so I'm afraid they won't work for that thick of a collar. You could look at the rivet on nameplate options instead http://www.dogids.com/category/rivet-on-dog-collar-name-plates/.
So these dont work on leather collars?
A shopper on Aug 20, 2015
BEST ANSWER: The slide on tags work on collars with an open end. They do not work with a snap or side release buckle. Chuck B. Staff
Will this fit on a double layer leather collar?
Tara S on Jun 7, 2016
BEST ANSWER: The opening is 1/8" wide, so as long as the collar is not thicker than that, it should fit over it.
I'm buying a Nylon QR Code ScruffTag Dog Collar (3/4" x 9") for a small Pomm that just barely has a 9" collar now and want to provide a name & number directly for anyone without the ability to scan the qr. 1. I wanted to make sure the QR scrufftag collar will accept this additional tag and 2. verify what size slide-on tag to buy for a 3/4" wide scrufftag collar.?
Kevin C on Feb 28, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Based on your request, I would actually recommend that you go with this QR code collar - https://www.dogids.com/product/nylon-webbing-scruff-tag-collars-with-qr-code/ - It's made from the same nylon but the QR code plate is colored aluminum and we engrave the phone number and the name pf the dog on the plate as well.

That would be the best option because with a neck size that small, it's going to be really hard to fit both nameplates on the collar. The smallest size adjusts down to 9" and that would not leave much room for an extra plate.
Do these IDs work on the common snap together type collars?
Jan E on Jan 12, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Hi Jan,

They will not. They will only work on collars that have an open end, like a belt. We do sell nylon collars with snap buckles where the plate is sewn in before the buckle is attached, but the plate itself won't work.
Is the brass Slide-On ID collar tag polished or antqued?
Kristel V on Jul 22, 2015
BEST ANSWER: I would say it starts out polished. Over time, it will tarnish, but you can use brass cleaner to shine it up.
Regarding the Slide-On ID Tag, is the tag slightly curved? I had a slide-on before and it was straight and pushed into my dog's neck.
A shopper on Jul 22, 2015
BEST ANSWER: They come slightly curved.
Will this tag slide on a thick nylon belt style collar?
David on Jun 5, 2015
BEST ANSWER: If it has an open end like a belt and the width matches the width of tag you order, then yes.
what size for a 1" width collar? small, medium or large?
A shopper on May 16, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Large slide fit 1" inch width collars. Chuck B. Staff
I want to choose the font but I can't tell how the font style looks. How can I see the font I want?
A shopper on May 16, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Just above the size drop down box are 3 tabs, click on the Font Guide tab, to see the fonts, or just start typing in text and the preview will show the text in the font you selected. Chuck B. Staff
Is this the same tag used for the DIY paracord collars?
Britt N on Apr 14, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Yes. It's the same tag used for all ScruffTag Collars.
Is this the same tag as the scruff wear line? Contoured? Same size? I'm wanting the same nameplate from the scrufftag line without the collar...
A shopper on Apr 1, 2015
BEST ANSWER: The slide-on dog collar name plates are the same as we use in the scruff tag line. Chuck B. staff

I show this dog tag to everyone!
Got it because it doesn't rattle or jingle. Love that part. But it is easier to read than the embroideried ones. Doesn't fall off or fade. Can use with cool collars. And reuse when old collar falls apart! I love it. Dog doesn't care. But I do!

Looks great!
I am still very pleased with this tag. It looks great and I have no fear of him loosing it. The price is worth every penny! I was very grateful for the warning of not trying to put it on a clip collar, I hadn't even given that any consideration when I purchased it. I will definitely order again for my other animals.

These are great. Silent, can't fall off and easy to see. Only one of my 4 dogs can't use it. She is small and it runs the hair off her neck. For the rest, its perfect!

Couldn’t thread tag on collar
Not sure how tag works on any dog collar. You can’t slide the end of collar through tag openings. Every collar has clasps or some kind of hardware that doesn’t fit through the attachment opening on collar. Nice enough tag, but not workable. Waste of $$ and bad design. Bought another one from another company that had slits on the tag to allow to fit the collar. Beware.

Response from dogIDs
Hi David, Thank you for your review. I am sorry to hear that the tag does not fit your collar. We do explain on the page for the tags that they will not fit on a collar with a breakaway or quick release buckle: This slide-on dog tag easily slides onto the strap of your dog's collar, as long as the collar has a traditional prong style buckle (like a human belt). The opening on the slide on tag is 1/8" wide, which can usually fit over a leather, nylon, or waterproof strap. This tag cannot be used with collars that have breakaway or quick release buckles, as the buckles are on both ends and are too wide for the tag to slide over. If you would like to discuss this further please call us at 800-720-8247.

It's a Great Tag
I kinda thought I would've gotten two for the price, but I guess it's a solid, quality product so $20 for a single tag isn't that bad in the long run. I think it's worth it and I constantly get compliments for it. Would buy again.
