This Chestnut English Bridle Leather Snap Bell Matches all Mendota style leather collars and leashes and snaps right onto the dee ring of any dog collar. Some people call this style bell a "bear bell" since they were originally used for snapping on to horse saddle bags, packs, etc. to scare away bears. But we like to use them for dogs. The sleigh bell is very nice for winter use since it prevents snow and ice from getting stuck inside the bell and always has a very clear ring.
Light enough not to hurt the dog when it bounces while the dog runs. The larger bell made my adult dog sore where it would swing against him but this one there is no problem. Very durable. This is my second bell of this type. The first one the pup was able to flip it up and chew the leather off. Amazingly it still worked and stayed connected to the clasp. It was just a little ugly. Maybe a longer nosed dog wouldn't be able to flip it up. Wish it was louder.
I haven't really tried it but I think I am going to be able to hear my dog when I let her loose to walk in the woods. I'm just worried that it may be too heavy and uncomfortable hanging on her. Also worried that it could catch on something. I really think an extra collar with several bells would be better (if it didn't drive her crazy!)
