If you like the elegant look of leather but insist on your dog wearing a maintenance free collar, these collars are perfect for you! Each collar is made with super durable Soft Grip poly coated nylon webbing and stainless steel hardware. Soft Grip strap was originally developed for producing bridles, halters and reins for horses...VERY tough stuff yet nice and soft to the touch. Soft Grip also holds its properties and does not crack in severe cold conditions. Our Soft Grip ScruffTagô Collars are not only super tough but also water proof and odor proof so if you have one of those dogs that just loves to be in the water all the time or loves to roll in the stinkiest stuff in the neighborhood, our Soft Grip ScruffTag Collars are a great solution. Each collar is made with a built in stainless steel name plate which we engrave exactly to your liking. No dog tags to install, no jingling tag to worry about and the nameplate is always right on the back of your dog's neck for easy identification...On the scruff of your dog's neck where it should be!

We have 2 very active dogs: a chocolate lab and a weimaraner. We frequent the muddy dog park, and the river for swimming - although they have a blast, the regular nylon/cotton collar stayed wet forever and stunk - I'm sure that wasn't comfortable for them.
Also, the dangling name tags would wake our baby up if the dogs walked around or shook their heads at night or during nap time. This engraved collar is sure to solve that problem for us! Apr 9, 2012

I believe that the leather loop attaching the tags prevents this, and ensures that there is comfort in the fit of the collar. D A: It is pretty strong stuff. I imagine it would be difficult to break if she got caught. Typically if you fit it right (high on the neck with room to put 2 fingers under it) it won't catch on anything. I find most times I have seen dogs catch their collars on something, it is because the collar is too loose. But if this is your worry, I would say it is too strong for your needs.

I will add that it is a great material for a swimmer. It sheds water perfectly withuot changing color, look or feel. May 6, 2011

Allison P: I purchased these collars for my working border collies. I had in the past purchased and really liked the English Bridle leather ones. This collar looks as nice as the leather one, and has a nice feel to it. I have the black ones, so not sure if the colored ones feel differently. But I really like this collar for many reasons. We own a ranch and feedlot where the dogs are constantly ducking through and under fences, where in the past have yanked off collars and tags that have got hung up in the fences. We have had NO problems with this collar coming unbuckled or snagging on anything. Another thing, our dogs are in and out of water tanks to cool off, and their collars still unbuckle and stay pliable. So far these are the very best collar I've ever used. I love that the tag is built into the collar, nothing to snag. We also use electric collars while they are wearing this collar, we take the electric collar on and off as needed, but this collar has never had the buckle come undone. Feb 16, 2013

F I: My Weimaraner is also what I describe as extreme active. She wears an Invisible Fence Electric Collar and this soft grip collar. I don't have the problem of the electric collar coming undone though. I have the electric collar on toward the bottom of her neck and this collar toward the top. I've had this collar on her for about a year and it is tough and doesn't show any signs of wear. I got this collar because the id charms kept falling off or wearing off the traditional collar no matter what I did. This collar stays closed and I have never had any issues with that. The strap was much bigger than I needed and I cut it to a length that worked for me so I don't have a whole bunch flapping around. Feb 16, 2013

C P: 1" collar will hold a very large dog. My two are 56 and 49lbs, and to be honest the 1" looks just a big large on them. My friend saw ours and got a 3/4" for her 55lb german shepherd puppy, who pulls, and it works perfectly.

To be fair, though, I use the Mendota Braided Dog Walker Martingale Leashes that I got here to walk our girls.

Chuck BStaff: We size our collar to the actual neck size, not the lenght of the collar.
We use a TRUE collar sizing system!
All of our collars, unless otherwise noted on the collar's page, are measured to the center hole for a TRUE neck size. What does that mean to you? Well, simply put, it means that the measurement of your dog?s neck is the size of the collar it needs. No guesswork needed to buy a collar that fits your dog correctly and comfortably.
Here are a few different methods for measuring your dog's neck:
Measure your dog's neck with a sewing tape while keeping two fingers between his skin and the tape.
OR...
Wrap a string around your dogs neck with two fingers between his skin and the string. Mark the string and then measure the length of it.
OR...
Remove your dog's current collar and stretch it out flat. Then measure from the center of the buckle to the current sizing hole being used.

N M: I ordered the largest size for my 2 labs (70 & 60 lbs). It was the 1in x 24 or something (whatever the largest one is). It was too long for both of them, and my male has a pretty meaty neck. I would definitely measure your dog's neck and whatever you get maybe add an inch or two, but not much more than that. It ended up being fine b/c we were able to cut the excess off and punched a few extra holes to make them fit. I LOVE these collars. Clint HStaff: We recommend Arial Round if you are looking for the easiest/most bold font to use. The engraving will be slightly smaller on the 3/4" size if you use all 5 lines. If you use 4 lines, the font will be about the same size as using 5 lines on the 1" collar. Either way, the font will not be hard to read so don't worry about that. Also, our engraving is guaranteed for the life of your pet so if you aren't happy with the engraving, let us know and we will make it right. Oct 15, 2011

Chuck BStaff: The soft grip collar may be a bit more collar than you want for that size dog. I might suggest the MGWEBB collars with the engraved aluminum buckles. This collar comes in a 5/8 width and the xsmall would fit 6-10 inch neck. Chuck B. Staff Jun 23, 2011

Chuck BStaff: This style of collar is designed so the nameplate will rest at the top of the neck, or the scruff. Due to the cost of the collar and uncertainty of the adult neck size, it may be better to wait until the dog is closer to maturity then get a collar that we know will fit properly. I might suggest a different style of collar for a growing puppy. Many of the nylon webbing collars come with an adjustable slider that can adjust as your dog grows. Chuck B-Staff Apr 15, 2011
