Customer Questions QUESTION: How adjustable are these Or are they custom made to fit? by Helen E 10/31/2011 STAFF ANSWER: The collars have 5 holes punched in the strap. For example a 20 inch collar would be 20 inches in the 3rd hole, which means it would go down to an 18 and up to a 22 inch collar. We like to be fairly close so the scruff tag rides at the top of the neck. Measure the dog's neck with a sewing tape or string, and place 2 fingers under the tape to give it a bit of room, then measure the string to get the size collar you need. Chuck B. Staff by Chuck B 10/31/2011 QUESTION: does anyone know if the smallest size would fit a 4 pound dog thank you! by None N 10/8/2011 STAFF ANSWER: Probably not. We are in the process of developing our small dog sizes for this product line. The leather will be skived down thinner and the width of the leather, nameplate and hardware will be 5/8" so much lighter and more comfortable for smaller dogs. We should have these sizes available in November. by Clint H 10/9/2011 QUESTION: If you only pick 2 or 3 lines vs all of them will it make that line bigger for the text? by None N 9/28/2011 STAFF ANSWER: If you only use 2 or 3 lines, we will automatically increase the size of the text and center the text horizontally and vertically. by Clint H 9/29/2011 QUESTION: are we able the replace metal part of the name tag in future? by None N 9/23/2011 STAFF ANSWER: Yes, we just ask that you ship it back to us and we will replace the nameplate if you need your contact information changed. We charge .00 to switch out the nameplates plus shipping. by Clint H 9/29/2011 QUESTION: can you please tell us the size in inch or cm? by NikoKiko N 7/19/2011 STAFF ANSWER: Please refer to our sizing instructions to determine which size your dog needs. http://www.dogids.com/leathersizing.html by Clint H 7/27/2011 QUESTION: I have a 16lbs two year pug, which size collar should I buy? by None N 7/16/2011 ANSWER: Both of my dogs are big dogs, so I can't speak to which size a small dog may need, but I do have one piece of advice. Make sure you account for any extra skin your dog may have. Our german shepherd has some extra loose skin around her neck, and I did not pull the tape measure tight and the collar was a bit too big. We had to drill another hole. There are instructions on the site that tell you how to measure. Those worked perfectly for our other dog. Overall, these collars are great! Fewer tags to jingle around. by Debra G 7/17/2011 ANSWER: Probably a small. My dog is a terrier, about 23 pounds. I got the medium for him. They are adjustable. I would measure around his neck to be sure. The sizes with the descriptions are pretty accurate. Hope this helps. by Debra B 7/17/2011 ANSWER: My suggestion would be the 3/4" x14". My reasoning is that I bought the 3/4" x 16" for my young Flatcoated Retriever and he has more than enough length, There are five holes and we have three to spare, The collar is generously sized, bridle leather is as good as it gets and as it ages and accumulates oil from your hands it gets as soft as melted butter and stretches just a tad. by Pam G 7/16/2011 QUESTION: I am not sure what size collar I will need for my golden retriever.....he is a puppy now but I want to purchase the collar for when he is an adult? by None N 7/7/2011 STAFF ANSWER: I actually have a very big golden retriever, around 90lbs, and he fills up an 18" collar in this style. The way our sizing works is an 18" collar fits a neck 16"-20", so If you think your pup is going grow to be an average sized golden, then I think a 16" would work just fine for you. If he has some big paws and you think he'll be above average then I'd look at our 18" sizing. Hope that helps: by Dustin H 7/7/2011 QUESTION: ihave 2 weiner dogs...will this 16" fit them\ can i punch holes? by None N 7/7/2011 ANSWER: I In answer too your question the collars have held up very well one is being worn by a doberman shepherd mix tho other by a sharpei lab mix yes you can punch holes in but it takes a heavy tool lettering is still legible after many walks by L I 7/7/2011 ANSWER: This is a strong collar and good looking; therefore, I do not think you can punch holes in it. It is very thick and high quality. Not knowing the size of your dogs this collar was small if the same size I purchased it was comfortable on my ankle it was a gift used my ankle to guesstimate the size on the tightest notch. Seems to me it would work for a dachshund though not entirely sure. Good luck! by S A 7/7/2011 QUESTION: I have an adult golden retriever. How could I determine what size of collar to get? by None N 6/3/2011 ANSWER: Measure the dogs neck there are 5 adjustment holes so from center hole to center of buckle is the dog's neck size and then there would be 2 inches for adjustments on either size of the center hole. The size of the dog's neck is the size collar you need with the dog ID size system. by M K 6/3/2011 ANSWER: They offer instructions for how to measure on their site. I copied some important details for you and I hope it's of help. I myself used the current collar method and I found it to be accurate. As well I am pleased with the collar. Good luck.... Here are a few different methods for measuring your dog's neck: Measure your dog's neck with a sewing tape while keeping two fingers between his skin and the tape. OR... Wrap a string around your dogs neck with two fingers between his skin and the string. Mark the string and then measure the length of it. OR... Remove your dog's current collar and stretch it out flat. Then measure from the center of the buckle to the current sizing hole being used. by R O 6/3/2011 QUESTION: What's its weight? by L C 4/26/2011 STAFF ANSWER: For example a 20 inch collar weighs in at 4.7 oz. The larger collars will weigh a bit more and smaller collars a bit less. If you have an exact size I can give you a weight on a specific collar. Chuck B. Staff by Chuck B 4/27/2011 QUESTION: Hi, How did you find these folks and can you please share re. delivery times. I have puppies that we're just now allowing out of the house. They were winter babies. by Robert Z 4/15/2011 ANSWER: Greetings! I've been nothing but hugely happy with this company .. I recommend them to everyone of my fellow dog owners! If I remember correctly, shipping was fast. I constantly get compliments on my dogs collar .. everyone loves the built in name plate and it's large enough I got his name, our name, 2 cell phone numbers and our city and state. I highly recommend!! Enjoy your puppies : by Stephanie M 4/17/2011 ANSWER: They were great and I received the collar very quick. I have a lot of people ask me were I got the collar from. It's very nice. by Carolyn B 4/15/2011 ANSWER: Robert - These are great collars. I have an enormous sense of security with my dog wearing the collar should he get lost. He loves the collar too. I received the collar in about a week and a half. Not bad considering they are personalized. I would recomment them. My dog has two. by Debra B 4/15/2011 QUESTION: Am thinking of buying this for my dog because I don't like the noise that hanging tags make. But I'm wondering if anyone has had any trouble with abrasion of the metal against the neck or of fur getting pulled where the metal joins the leather Thanks for the advice! by George E 11/12/2010 ANSWER: Actually, having received my collars, I'm a bit concerned about the thinness of the plate. I should have asked, of course, about the thickness of the metal tag. It's the same material/thickness as traditional, hanging tags. I'm going to keep an eye on how it fits my 45-lb Vizsla, since she has very short hair and no undercoat. When the collar is attached to a leash, the tag will be over her throat, and yes...there is the concern of the thin, rigid edge causing damage or discomfort. However, I bought the collar primarily for her trips to the dog park, where her tags have been pulled by other dogs. So it might be a wash. I wish the site would actually post the thickness of the plate here. I HAVE seen collars with thicker plates, ie. the thickness of a wristwatch. This is what I'd imagined I was buying, but of course I didn't ask. by Michelle B 3/11/2011 STAFF REPLY: Michelle, thanks for the info and the thoughtful answer. Much appreciated! by George E 3/12/2011 STAFF REPLY: Hi Michelle, Thanks for the great feedback! The plate is .040" thick which is actually thicker than most stainless pet tags on the market and very tough. We believe they are plenty thick to hold up to the rowdiest of dogs but not too thick so customers can bend them to put a little curve in them if they want to without too much effort recommend using pliers to do this unless you have very strong hands. Good suggestion on putting the thickness of the plate on the website. We will do so. by Clint H 3/16/2011 STAFF ANSWER: Debra, thanks so much for the answer. Really helpful. Think I'm going to get it. George by George E 11/16/2010 ANSWER: I bought these collars for my husky and german shepherd. They have fairly thick fur, so there has been no trouble with abrasions. The metal plate sits at the back of the neck if there is no leash attached, so there is not too much risk of it pulling the fur either. I love these collars so far and have had no trouble with them. They are great because if you look down at the dog the metal plate is often the first thing that you see, making it easy for people to see the information if your dog ever gets out. The only recommendation I have is to make sure you get a good measurement of your dog's neck before ordering. Both of the collars I got were too big fastened on the middle hole and one needs to have a new hole put in it. Other than that, great collars. by Debra G 11/16/2010 QUESTION: Hi, I'm thinking about getting one of these for our Norwegian Buhund, but wondered how well they hold up in water as he likes to swim. Do they hold up in water or would I need to take it off him Thanks much! by Gite G 11/11/2010 ANSWER: my two labs are in the water all the time. i find that if you condition the leather there is no problem. the collars are so beautiful and well made that it is worth the few minutes of effort to keep them looking that way. the alternative is to buy this collar for everyday use. another one for sunday best and then a nylon one for when they're in the water...no matter which way you go, you can't go wrong with a collar from dogid. by Robin H 7/20/2011 ANSWER: @Clint H: correct, good point. by Eliazer B 6/15/2011 STAFF ANSWER: The leather is top quality and very durable. Our dogs swim with these collars quite a bit and though the leather is very high quality, I recommend to use leather conditioner on the leather if your dog is swimming a lot. This will help the collar resist losing its shape as the leather expands and contracts as it absorbs water and dries repeatedly. by Clint H 12/8/2010 Customer Comments COMMENT: Great Product! by Joshua B 10/1/2011 COMMENT: Great Product! by Joshua B 10/1/2011 COMMENT: Very nice collar and great price with the 50 percent off!! by Jennifer G 9/30/2011 COMMENT: I like the look of leather and the metal mixture by Sami M 9/21/2011 COMMENT: I think it is a very unique item by Michael J 9/20/2011 COMMENT: Finally found a collar for my Scotties that won't wake Trystian up while he's napping!
